Anyone know which local Hudson chapter he is talking to that told him this rust bucket is worth $15,000 as it sits I have a bridge I want to sell them. I am thinking he never spoke to anyone who knows about Hudsons.

In addition to the crazy price and BS about getting that from the local Hudson chapter, I like the multiple bottles of oil laying in the bottom of the drivers door, behind what's left of the rat eaten interior. This seller is

I am thinking if he did talk to someone they said 150 Bucks he misheard and added 3 zeros. The rust on the inner fenders does not bode well for the rest of the car. This kind of reminds me of the NOS fender that was offered for $2000 that had rust everywhere and now its at $700 which is still $500 too much. I think these guys are going for the comedy angle.

This car looks every bit as bad as my 49 was - if not worse - and we all know what that looked like when I tore it down
IMHO - it's not worth a penny more than the intoduction price of 5k even though it's supposedly a "safe driver"
Sad, this kind of thing gives everyone a black eye...

Whenever I see a tired car with its skirts removed, one thing always comes to mind...RUST, and lots of it. The price alone suggests that the seller is not the sharpest knife in the drawer.

Ken, your car is worth every penny of 28K it comes from you a known Hudson guy who stands behind his work and its ready to drive. These jokers on ebay have never restored a car so they don't know what it costs. 28k is a bargain for a pristine 53 coupe.

Hi, Hudson Judy here. I wrote to this guy and told him that if he expected to get $16,000 for this thing, he will have it at the end of the week. I told him he could get $1500 to $2000 from what I could see, but tht I didn't want to rain on his parade. Miracles happen. Hudson Judy

Ken, they're not balking at your price. Have you forgotten that Hudson people are, in reality, frustrated stock brokers - buy low, sell high!!
$25 to $30 k is realistic for your Hornet Coupe and if anybody doubts it I'm going to say right now that I've known you for at least 15 years and I know the work you do - you are a perfectionist!!! Anybody would balk at your price and your work has cement between their ears!!!
If I had the coins your car would be sitting in my driveway by now.

Check out the 55 Buick they are also listing at $38,888. Somebody actually bid on it. I wonder if the price includes the blonde in the pictures? That might make it worth the price.
As far as the Hudson it only needs a little TLC and it can really be a show stopper. A little paint a little wax? Some phychiatric help for anyone crazy enouth to pay that price.

Don't know who would guesstimate the value of this car so high, unless maybe the current owner (?) Well, I guess we all have our dreams...
From the description, one would think it is only a bit of paint & polish from being a Concourse restoration. Well, as long as the seller seems to think it is in such prime condition & such a good deal - why doesn't he take it down to BJ himself? Someone there might actually come close to paying the BIN price the seller wants...

Who can say where the seller got the WTN, but he may have used it as the basis for his pricing. He probably should have taken off his rose colored glasses before reading the For Sale Section though. You have to wonder if the seller is that misinformed or if he is trying to gouge a buyer who has more money than brains.

OK I confess...I told him it was worth $15,000
This car is a daily driver, safe and reliable for wherever you want to take it. It needs relatively minor cancer surgery, new paint and an interior. If you’ve read all the way down to the bottom of this ad, you’re the kind of person who either knows how to do it all, or where to get it all done. The local Hudson Car Club people figure the car should sell for $15,000.00 as it sits. Reserve is a might lower than that. Once it’s been restored, it’s a Barret Jackson piece, and the Sky is the Limit.
Of course the accesor just valued our property at $660,000...Hahahahha
Whats a couple extra zeros among friends huh?
TOM

And to prep for Barret Jackson all it needs is to top up the radiator and add some air to the tires and its ready for it huge sale price.
I like to look at this ad as a fairytale. "Their once was a rusted Hudson that was worth $15,000 as it sits or so said the wise HET'ers who lived in the village down the road. Now Jack pulled the Hudson into town to sell it and could not understand why the people from the other villages threw stones at his head........"
Sigh.....still is was worth the comedy the ad provided thats priceless for everything else there is Mastercard....

I sorta think that us HUDNUTS ought to leave this alone---Who says that he can't sell the car for whatever he wants? Are we the judges? Possibly a buyer could be found that doesn't know EVERYTHING about Hudsons like Sooooo many of us perceive, but jusy wants to own an appreciating automoblie. I really believe that we shouldn't hold anyone to the fire as far as prices are concerned---what business is it of mine if one does or doesn't buy said vehicle? As this gentleman IS an auto dealer, he probably will be the first to acknowledge that his price is TOO HIGH, if it does not sell. Then, possibly sanity might prevail (Sanity in the minds of many who have posted on this thread) and the price will fall. Hey, let the prices rise---doesn't that just make our cars' value increase? I think so.
There are MANY old sayings that could be applied here---"Sucker born every minute", "Caveat Emptor", etc. I'm just having a hard time criticizing or "constructively criticizing" something that won't affect my little world.
FIY, IMHO, etc.---Take your shots, Gents---
BTW---My '49 S6ClCp will probably be for sale shortly--- Wait 'till you see my asking!!!
THANX!!

The best thing we can do is to pass on our experience and knowledge on this forum.
Many, many prospective buyers come to this forum to learn about these cars before making the investment - why shouldn't they benefit from our mistakes and miseries?

I would really appreciate if the local lynwood het chapter that apraised this car could come down and apraise mine also. All my car needs is the visor the tires and some really good BC bud and mine too will be worth that price. Car salesmen write really good adds I almost bid on that car just from the writeup
"The owner put blankets over the seats, because he uses the car as a daily driver, and says the blankets give the car a “homey” feel."
He drives this car as his daily driver? He is a brave brave man and for that reason right there I think he deserves at least $15,000 I am on my way to bid on the car.

Hey Rambo--Remember--Rule#1--No name Callin'!! My position is just that I believe anyone, any time, anywhere could (AND DO!!) ask for the moon. Don't mean he's gonna find the "One born every minute" person to buy his "gem".
I also believe that I should withhold my humble(?!!) opinion until I've been a LOT closer to the vehicle in question. Being from Northern California I am amazed and flabbergasted at some of the projects that some of persons on this Forum have undertaken--You included!! I guess I'm spoiled, but WOW!! some of these projects aren't even parts cars here!! This coming from one who has some thirty-five odd years of experience with the HUDSON Auto. In that time, I can remember maybe three cars that I would never consider as projects! That's probably fifty or so HUDSONS that I have been involved with. My hat is off to the talented people that are undertaking some of their projects!
As far as the Forum, I have learned MORE about HUDSON in the six or so months being on it than I have in the 35 prior years! The information, experiences, facts, archives, contacts, etc are nothing short of incredible. Here's hoping that the information keeps coming for many, many more years! KUDUS and THANX to all for your efforts--that's what makes this thing work so well, IMHO----
P.S. Thumper's world wasn't all that bad, was it?

Much agreed! My son (who is 4 y.o.) is only allowed limited TV and its usually educational DVD's we purchased. No violent movies or shows, no video games, no guns, etc. He reads one book with either my wife or I each night before bed. I talk about easy science things such as planets, stars, clouds, etc. I don't intend to isolate my son, but I refuse to let him grow up to be as stupid as today's culture seems to wants us to be. And he's not going to learn that "might makes right", we promote violence too much in this country.
And of course we both look at each new WTN and Hot Rod mag that comes! He knows his cars!

good times.
seriously though....
that rusty hudson is overpriced, period. can't argue that one. It is a shame, because overpricing a project like that just keeps it out of the hands of anyone that might do the car justice. Now it will sit and rust more, and at some point, it will be unsaveable, just becuase the seller was holding out for an unrealistic price.

You know, I used to have a copy of the Bambi book my father had as a child, it was printed in the late 30's or early 40's if I remember correctly. The pages were yellowed, but I remember reading it as a boy. I also remember the song albums like the Grasshopper and the Ant, etc. Boy, that's a long time ago!

The must be some really good smoke or drugs making it around the country right now - cause the "Doc Hudson" effect has made people crazy insane.
Imagine buying a car for 16k that needs a complete restoration and then finding out how hard it is to find parts for a Hudson. Hudsonkid is right that these kinds of prices for "lawn ornaments" will mean they sit even longer untill nothing left but the bones.
The ONLY reason a rusty relic should command that kind of money is if it is a factory rare model, or has some kind of pedigree from early racing and that would need to be documented.
At this rate my custom 49 should be worth 100k

I drove it for about a year and sold it for a hundred bucks to a young college guy who used it for awhile then parked it. I since moved to San Jose and lost track of the car. Could this be the same one? the one I had did have a blanket on the seat, but no WTN. That Hudson would cost almost as much money to keep maintained as the blonde with the Buick. And as those of you who are married to one will agree, that's a pretty tragic Hudson.
My 29 Sedan is for sale for $39,900. I will take a bottom dollar of $37,500 from club members or HET enthusiasts.
