So as some of you may know, I bought a '51 Hornet and it turns out the engine was cracked to hell. So I got another block that is in really good shape. It's in the shop and all the parts are in ready to be put back together when I find out that it's a 262! The guy I bought it from was a good guy, and he must've just thought it was a 308 but it wasn't. Anyone know how much you can safely bore out a 262? I saw a post where someone was saying how the bored one out to 299.5 so they could meet racing c.i. requirements. I'm getting low on funds, and I need to make a decision quick. I really want to keep the car stock, so if I can find another 308 (a real 308) that would be great. Any leads/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I live just north of Seattle.

Most suppliers do not offer piston sizes greater that .060 over size so this won't get you there. Give Jim Harmon a call about the 308 block he may be able to help plus he is in the North West (Portland area). 503-324-7041, tell him Fred had you call - Happy Hudsoning

Whoa! That 299.9 was with a Hornet 4.5 stroke crank.
