Hey All,
Over the weekend, I had managed to pick up a '36 Terraplane truck (well, half of one. It's only good for parts), and I am in the process of pulling anything that is still useable. Once I have the engine/trans/clutch out and have gone over them, I will be putting them up for sale in the WTN (or trade for some much-needed parts for my project '36 truck), since I don't need them. The trans is probably in decent condition since the output spun freely, and I was able to put it into a gear - but not sure about the engine. It's missing the water pump & carb, and the intake is broken and corroded, but the head looked fine - i.e. no cracks and all nuts & plugs in position. If nothing else, I'm hoping that some of the internals are at least still viable.
What I would like to know is how should I go about checking the engine and trans to make sure that they are still useable? Carefully clean & dissassemble 'em and go over the major components with a fine-tooth comb, or is there something else I need to look out for? This will be my first time tearing into *any* engine, so any pointers would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike
