Need 1940 overdrive Relay

Anyone out there have a 6 volt relay for a 1940 simi-electric overdrive? I need it to get the overdrive working. Would appreciate any help getting this project finished. Thanks airmec13

I'm not 100% sure, but I think the relay I am using for my 1940 overdrive, is the same AutoLite one you see advertised as a headlight relay in Ebay auctions from time to time. They are relatively plentiful and cheap. Right now there are several AutoLite HRB-4201's for sale at Ebay stores, but I think they're all overpriced!

The "downshift" action is momentary so actually a headlight relay -- which can be energized indefinitely -- is more than adequate. The wiring is thus: a wire comes from your ignition switch (the terminal that's 'on' only when you turn the key) to the relay circuit which is completed by the kickdown switch. (Thus, when you depress the kickdown switch, the relay will only work when the ignition key is "on".)

The other circuit in the relay is powered by the Battery terminal on the voltage regulator, and that circuit is completed at the solenoid itself. This of course retracts the plunger into the solenoid (I am told the plunger action is entirely opposite in the post-1940 overdrives).

So, it's fairly simple and I think I'm correct in saying that the headlight relay will work on this.
