Make my camaro the best!

I have a 1968 camaro RS - it needs a engine and trans. I'm looking for the best of two worlds gas Milage + kick....... Money is low for the work I need too do , so give me ideas. I'm looking at a 1996 police car with a 350 with a front distributor +trany .I love the fuel injection electric fan system and the possability to change fuel and shifting in the transmission with a computer .

Have you considered a V-6? Lots of kick can be built in and the gas usage is better.
