Hey, great forum...nice to meet you all. Almost complete on my recent mechanical restoration of my family heirloom, a 55' chevy truck. Its been a fun and expensive project (8k), and my first experience with such a comprehensive restoration. Anywho, if you are interested in the photo journal of the event, my narrative on the whole project, from the beginning, can be found on the first photo submitted, page two using the link in my signature...

On to my question:

Has anyone put a remote start system on a carb engine? I have found little on the internet, aside from design tech, which used to make a carb kit to work with any remote start system (almost any, anyway). Of course, design tech was bought out by viper, and viper certainly wont support the carb engines for their remote start systems...bastards. I can do the solenoid thing to pump the gas for me, but want to find ALL my options first before I get the viper security/keyless entry/remote start installed, and having to press two buttons (one to activate the solenoid to pump the gas, the other to crank the engine) to make the remote start work with the viper leaves me feeling cold.

Any input, at all, would be appreciated.

Wow, I find it interesting that more folks arent putting remote starts on classics.

I mean, really, what could be more cool than starting your 300hp 350 engine classic (dual aspirated to the tail and 18" glass-packs growling) as it sits unoccupied, and locked with a security system, in the middle of a busy parking lot? Im all over that, for about $600 installed. Of course, Ive got some extra work to be done, but the kit itself, including install is only $281

Well, first of all, I never bring my car to a busy parking lot and I surely wouldn't leave it un-attended.
Secondly, why would I want to start the car without me being in it?

I guess we have different ideas on how to care for a classic

Best of luck with your remote starter
Ron

Youre right, we do see things differently. If something I own is so special I have to make special arrangements to enjoy it, I dont want to own it.

As for why you would want to start your vehicle before you get in it, thats easy; ac in the summer and heat in the winter. You must live in a real mild climate, because here in florida not having to get into a sweltering hot vehicle is awesome.
