Ok, i seem to be having some difficulty with my current engine and i've just recieved my income tax so i'm looking into possibly purchasing some new heads, and once i pull the current heads off and figure out what's wrong chances are a short block also. but anyways what i'm getting at is i'm not sure what heads to look at really, i've been doing a lot of reading and the low end torque and steady hp seems to be the best with the vortec heads, but i've never built a 350 before so i'm only going on what i've read, so that's where i need your help. i've been looking around and i'm thinking possibly a 64 cc 194 150 of course something rebuilt. any help is appreciated.

there are 2 different sbc vortec heads out there you need to watch the vortec heads really close. the one head casting likes to crack after it gets some miles on it I believe it is the 906 if I'm correct. the reason I know this is a really good friend sells used engine parts and cores to the rebuilders and he was warning me of it because I've been looking at a set for one of my engines. one of the heads has 3 marks on the end of it and the other only has 1 mark on the end of it. I can ask him for sure which you'd want I've actually been toying with the idea of just buying new heads and starting from there.

What year 350? Pre 1987 or later?

1975 truck, i'm looking at buying a 75 short block for it and then getting some different heads to put on it. Everyone is telling me to just go with the long block, but i'd like to upgrade the heads now, if it's only going to cost me a few hundred more, i'm actually looking at a set of reman'd camel humps now, 202 160 but 76 cc , i've been told that if you up the compression much that you won't be able to run on pump gas very well, so i'm kind of lost. The one's i'm looking at are about 500 bucks like i said 202 160 76 cc, everything except rockers, and push rods. so any incite on what i should do would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, johnny :)
