I guess I'm a glutton for punishment. I was outside this afternoon putting the windshield wipers back together, it was the first non rainy day we've had since I put the motor back in so what better time to put the wipers back on? Anyway, I finished with that project and since I was sitting in the car turning knobs I thought to myself, hey I guess I'll see what I can do with the radio. I remembered that one night while I was under the dash I saw the tubes light up, ever hopeful I got back under the dash, since I seem to nap whenever I do this I caught a quick nap but this time when I woke up I remembered why I was there. The first thing I did was check the fuse, lo and behold the fuse was burnt so I figured that was why I wasn't getting radio but after replacing the fuse I still don't have any power to the box that I can see, strange I was getting power once and not now. While I was under there it struck me as strange that I couldn't find any speakers but eventually I found them. The next project is to remove the radio and take it to Steve E in Fontana. I think I just need to remove the glove box frame and then see what's holding the dang thing in there.
Steve E, if you see this e-mail me your phone number please, send it to HEThjhill@verizon.net

Thanks Harry

After talking with Steve E today I pulled the radio from the car, man that was fun, not! Anyway, I put the radio on the bench and with my friends help we are getting power to the box but still no sound coming out. It looks like one of the tubes is dead. I'm going to take the radio over to Bill A's tomorrow and let Steve have his way with it. On an interesting note when I took the cover off there was a long dead Vinegaroon in the radio, must have been a desert car.

Harry,

I guess you didn't know that AMC put a vinegaroon in every car they built. :)

Good idea, then if any cockroaches came over from a nearby Olds the vinegaroon could eat them.

I wonder if your little stowaway got electrocuted in the radio and shorted something out.

Dave,
that could be, he was completely dessicated. I couldn't even smell the vinegar when he crumbled. I might be driving a 53 year old 4000 pound bug zapper.

Harry,

Having your vinegaroon dry up prematurely was covered under warranty. Too bad that coverage expired 53 years ago. Based on the volume of remains plastered on the windshield and radiator every summer, we all drive two ton bug zappers here.
