Old school lowering

What happened to the old school method of lowering a car by cutting one ring off front springs and removing a few leafs from multi-leaf rear spring set up?

Now they offer drop spindles, air ride technology, complete sub chassis assemblies, four point links, etc....and these companies that offer these parts to lower our cars state that performing the above will set the camber and caster off that it will eventually damage everything!

I remember doing this back in the day to set up stock cars and other hot rods and ran them for years like that.

Any ideas on the best, most cost effective manner to lower a classic muscle car? Old school method OK?

Cutting just like heating springs, screws them up forever and precludes you ever changing back.

Just get shackles if you want old skool lowering. That way when you want to change it back or just adjust its height, you can.

Cutting a coil off or removal of a leaf with change the re-bound of that part would be my guess. With the lowered spindles you still get the good ride.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the feedback. I suppose the 2" drop spindle is the best way to go for the fronts, gives me an excuse to upgrade to disc brake conversion as well. (if I can get the wife to go for it)

But what about the rear? Any body have a solution for lowering the rears with muliti leaf spring set-up? Is it as easy as removing the two lower leaves?
