Hello,

I just started my rebuilt 65 Corvette SM (350 HP, Hyd lifters). Oil pressure is too high - pegs my oil gauge at 60 psig. Builder says "no problem, drive it a while and it will come down" I don't like this. What will it do to my gauge ? (can't be good). He must have put a Hi-Perf pump in it and it doesn't need one.

Is it as simple as (him !) replacing the pump and/or spring (i.e., drop oil pan and replace) or is more involved ?

Thanks,
Mark

Well, it does not sound like a problem. 60-80 psi is ok. The Chevy 350 loves/needs good oil pressure.

It sounds like you are more worried about the stock oil gauge. If is it electric, then you can compensate the gauge. If it is mechanical, I am not sure that you have any good options.

Changing oil pumps will be a rather involved and expensive and the stock pump can supply up to 60 PSI too.
