New to Classic Cars Need Help, Hello Everyone

I have a 1957 Chevy Bel-Air which had a gas leak, had to take the tank off to replace a O-ring in the filler neck that goes into the tank. The problem is got the O-Ring yesterday now we cannot get the filler neck to go into the tank. Can anyone give me help? Or suggestions on what to do?

Spray it with some silicone or put a small amount of some grease like lubriplate on it. You will have to work it though to get it to go back in.
