Trico vacuum wiper motor

Hi all,
Looking for info on rebuilding my Trico motor. Anyone sell rebuild kits? Better to rebuild or replace? I have a 36 Terraplane and the motor # is SK 17.
I would like to keep it and have it original but dont want to spend the cost of changing over on the old one!

I'm not sure if www.wiperman.com sells kits; I know they will rebuild your old one. Try them!

You may be able to salvage what you have, but introducing some neats foot oil into the chamber; it loosens up the leather seal. There are some other liquids you can put in there as well (I think someone suggested brake fluid?) By moving the lever in the right way, you can suck the oil in through the vacuum pipe. Let it sit for a few days before draining, and you might find the motor actually works!

I believe that "wiperman" is a guy named Ficken. His dad bought all of Trico stock when they went out of business and he sells parts and kits. He also advertises in Hemmings Motor News. He is the "go to" guy for Trico.

I second (or third or fourth) this recommendation! Ficken is great! He's quick and his prices are quite reasonable. He did my '41 Traveler wiper motor and it came back looking (and behaving) as a new one. He also carries the teeny little wiper blades for $6 apiece. Check out his website and see all the steps he does to restore the motor; most likely you are not equipped to do this, nor will you be able to find the parts all that easily.

hello, my wiper was a rubber material..i am not sure soaking would help that. leather could soften up. regards, tom
