Located in Liberty, NC. Looks like a nice, driveable project. Currently at $3,500 (reserve not met), with a $11,000 BIN. The BIN is a bit pricey (my opinion).

Seller claims that this is original, but it doesn't look quite right to me... I think someone painted it at some point (?)... Also appears to be missing some of the brightwork (chrome/stainless). Your thoughts?

It's a model 71 so wouldn't have quite as much brightwork as the model 72 (though there isn't that much chrome, even on the more expensive model). Unless it's missing the trim on the hood side vents, I'd say it's pretty complete. The color looks like one of the original colors (Mandelay Ivory? http://www.tcpglobal.com/aclchip.aspx?image=1937-hudson-pg01.jpg ) , though it might have been repainted.

Nice Terraplane. hope someone restores it. Also noticed that someone claims to have Ty Cobb's 1925 Hudson up on Ebay. Anyone ever hear anything about that car?

Joh - Did some of the '37s come without those 'wings' on the lower-front fenders?
Is any of the side-hood trim chrome/stainless? That ornamentation looks to be body-colored to me.

I am not that familiar with the '37s, so don't know...

Addendum:
Answered my own questions...

Rick:

The top photo is of a 1937 Hudson -- a different animal, trim-wise. The chrome belt moldings and the runningboard molding are standard in the Hudson, not even an option on the Terraplane.

The fender "wings" were standard on the Hudson (in the design pictured). In the Terraplane (in a different design) they were standard only on the "Super Terraplane".

So, the Ebay Terraplane (a model 71) has no runningboard or belt moldings (they are Hudson-only) and no fender "wings" (that's "Super" only). It looks about right for the model 71.

Looks like only trim missing is the three thin strips along the hood-side vents. Jon, isn't the steering column support bracket originally black? Column and wheel look too new for original. Rt side door panel looks like a shiny vinyl; dash looks to have been redone. But, still a pretty straight-looking coupe.

That cannot possibly be the original upholstery?

There is very little chrome or stainless on a Model 71 - he has the same trim my Brougham has. His car HAS the three thin strips on the hood sides - they are just a little hard to see. They are there.

The column support bracket should be black, not dash-colored. The column and wheel both are correct for the car - same as mine is. Might be shiny, but maybe that just means he painted them!

A Model 71 would have the black rubber floor mat in the front and carpeting in the back. Far as the ebay car having the original upholstery - I'd say "no".

Wow, in reading the write-up I find out that my '37 coupe is "rare', I don't consider it so, however that car doesn't look that bad and the '37 radio is scarce. Add a set o' skirts, that will give it a lower look.

Ron, in the background, behind the tractor, is my wife's '78 Chrysler New Yorker Brougham Salon. The maroon car in the foreground is my '77 Cordoba.

Chopped? Lowered? Noooooo! Not on an original car! Find a beater for that treatment!

Jon-

Is the model 71 the same as a business coupe? I know the b.c.'s had little to no trim on them.

Business coupes came only as model 71's. There was a "utility coupe" available as a model 70. Not sure of the finer points of comparison...

I like the running board SS trim on the black 37. Where can I find them?

In Terraplane Heaven. LOL! Seriously, they would be a tough find, but I believe there is a set out there with your name on them, if that's what you want. How much constitution do you have? All it takes is perseverance.

It is now up to seven grand, maybe thats about it. But is a nice looking car and easy to correct small things and not a piece of junk. The paint, interior and etc. is not original as most of us know but most of the cars out there are not either. As the 37 terraplane someone posted here is a nice car and i have seen it many times at national meets it was not a two tone car as it is now but it sure looks nice. many of the cars we see called restored have a different color paint or interior etc
