Could somebody give me information on how to remove the rear windows on a 1940 hudson coupe? Thank you in advance.

John

On our '39 coupe, I peeled the gasket back from the body and then used an exacto knife to cut thru the gasket, then popped the window out from inside. I was able to do this by myself as the quarter windows were already removed.

Don't know if there is any way to safely remove it without cutting the gasket.

John,
On my 41 sedan I also cut the gasket all the way around and proceded to go on the inside and evenly push the window where it would just protrude out enough to grab. I was by myself and to my horror it popped out and slid down the trunk and onto the ground. Have someone help you so the same thing doesn't happen. By the way,I couldn't believe it didn't break. Jim

If you must remove the rear window yourself, before you push it out slightly to get your fingers on the inside to pull it out from outside, why not tape it with a few long strips of duct tape across the roof and sides with enough slack to push it out about an inch or two past rubber gasket, then the tape will hold the glass in place untill you get to the back and get a grip on it, then pull it and the tape off.

One more thing, when cutting the hard old gasket , be careful that the blade can't suddenly jerk free and slash yourself. Wear thick leather gloves, always position your body away from the path of the blade when you are tugging on it. Better to cut a little at a time, as it requires less force. Be patient.
