Hello,
I've been looking for new shocks for my '36 Terraplane Series 62 sedan, but cannot find any new replacement shock absorbers, or even a modern substitute part number. I do see some numbers in the Hudson's Swaps Manual, for '37 and up, but nothing for '36. They also list some for '36 Hudson that appear as though they might fit, but....

Does anyone know of where I can get a good replacement part number?

Thanks,
Tom

Shock absorbers are the same for all '34 -'39 models. There was a complete set on ebay this week.

GAS CHARGED SHOCKES IN 1936 ???? Well I've been wrong before but I don't think so. The originals were refillable hydraulic period. By the way, I've got some layin around here some place, Don't know how good or if rebuildable, cheap if anybody wants them, and no I did'nt comment to sell them to Rocky, should go to somebody to rebuild if possable. So O. K. Rocky ,the ebay's may fit, but due to the gas N.O.S thing I would check them out first. What I did on my 37 was measure the dist between mounts, went to my freindly NAPA dealer and got some for a simular wght modern car. I like adjustables so you can compensate for differances in suspenshion BUD

I got my set for the whole car ('36T series 62) from Kantor quite a few years ago, they seem to work fine.

Thanks for the inputs.....

I did see the ones on ebay. On mine, all four shocks are the same, side attach at the top, but with vertical pin attachment on the bottom. The set of 4 on ebay includes one pair like I need, but with the other being side attachment on both top and bottom. It appears mine are original (at least from when the car was parked in '51) so I can't use the ones on ebay. I was guessing perhaps in '37 they'd gone to the side attach on the bottom..

Anyway, I'll check Kanters and at NAPA. I am surprised at what NAPA has for my '36 - like brake cylinders for $4.65 each last year guess the trick is to know the most recent use of a particular part - kinda like that Swaps Manual!

Take the shocks off the car and take them to a parts store. If you get a counter person that can look in the catalogs instead of a computer they can match you up a set that will work.

NAPA is really good if you can get someone to look in their, "old book!" There is an old guy, (my age) at my local NAPA who goes straight to this whenever I walk in. If he isn't there, nobody else even knows what I am talking about.

Hey Rocky,
Heres the numbers I got from MARS 55 for my 36T model 61. I got the Monroe ones through Rock Auto at a great price and they worked great!
Good luck,
T Jeff

Something must have been changed on your application. All thirties cars had front shocks with stud on the bottom and eye on the top, and rears had eyes both top and bottom. The ones on ebay are the correct application for all thirties models Hudson and Terraplane.

Thanks for all the inputs, guys. I'll take mine off and head off to NAPA - the price is right - $17 each!

Thanks,

I replaced the shocks on my 35 Terraplane. Got them from A-1 Shock Absorber Co. in Silverton, CO 800-344-1966. The rubber bushings were slightly thicker than the originals but a little sanding fixed that. They had the correct ends front and rear and were 1/4" bigger in diameter than the original shocks.
