where and how they are placed in the trunk. mine came with them sitting in the trunk i no some parts go behind the tire not sure and cant figure it out.

While looking at some pictures of a Motor Trend test of the 52 Hornet and Wasp, a picture of Hornet's trunk shows the tools were jambed in the well with the spare.

In a picture I have showing the trunk on a new 53 Hornet, no tools are present.

As far as I know, there was no intentional place to put the standard jack. I think someone here on the forum once mentioned that the jack, base and lug wrench came in a cardboard box, placed in the trunk, on new cars.

My car has a hydraulic Hudson jack that came in a wood box. I keep my lug wrench tucked next to the spare so it doesn't go flying around and ding the inside of a fender.

Dont remember just which but some of them had the jack held in two spring clips between the spare and wheel well. The base of jack and a bolt held the spare and the lug wrench jack handle pushed down beside the spare.

Hi Bob,

Sorry, I don't have a picture, but my jack box is made from 1 inch thick board stock, blocks in each corner to which the boards are screwed and glued. The top is the same thickness with simple piano hinge and dual latches on the front edge. Looks to be as old as the jack and the jack fits inside perfectly. Actually, slight marks are worn into the wood where the jack has rested. Oh, and there is a beefy leather (?) covered handle on the center of the top. The handle, latches and hinge are secured to the box with brass screws. The sharp edges appear to have been eased over by sanding or routing. Can't say for certain if this was how they were supplied from the manufacturer or Hudson, but it looks to have been purpose made for the jack and isn't a shipping crate.

I have the hudson hydraulic jack but misplaced the jack handle anybody
witha proper handle post the measurements and a picture and I could
make a replacement handle. Ray:D

Thanks, Dave 53, I am headed for the workshop. I have 2 jacks, one for the Jet & one for the Hornet. The boxes will solve the problem of them rattling around.

Duncan, the handle is a 12" long steel rod 1/2" dia. My local hardware store cut me a piece for my jack.

Bob, You're welcome. Let us know how they turn out. BTW, I've seen a few similar boxes in the trunks of 40's and 50's era cars at shows. So far, the owners have told me they came with the car. Maybe this is how they were originally supplied. :confused:
