The block is from a 1949 Commodore Six. It is a 262 CID narrow block.

Thanks, appreciate the info. Bob

Is the aluminum head a dealer installed option or did they come that way?

This motor has the aluminum head, but no cast marks to identify the cubic inches. Thanks, Bob

Aluminum head was a factory option, Bob. Many people had trouble with these, as they were prone to warpage. The head came from the factory 2.00" thick, and the maximum you can safely shave it is .060". Thus, if your head is thinner than 1.94" at the bolt bosses, it's best used as garage art. I'd also recommend one of the "Best" brand head gaskets available fron Dale Cooper or Randy Maas if you plan to use the factory aluminum head on any Hudson big six. Take it from a guy who's been there. Another bit of trivia is that if you ordered the aluminum head on a new Hudson in '48-49, you got an aluminum intake manifold with it, as well.

The 1948-1954 Monthly production list in my General Infor Handbook, for another bit of trivia, shows that car was produced sometime in January 1949 (39794-57741).
