Hi, while driving my 59 Sedan DeVille, I noticed the brake pedal got very mushy. When I got home, I checked the master cylinder and needed to add brake fluid - the level was way down. When I put the nylon cap back on, I noticed its threads were stripped. After I had filled the resevoir to the top, I had a friend pump the brakes while the car was idling. I noticed fluid spurt out thru a pin sized hole in the center of the cap. The brakes had been fine until this, I think I just need a new cap without a hole. Any suggestions on where I can get a cap (Bendix cylinder I think), or other obvious things?

The cap is nylon, has 2 wings on the top (so it could be turned by hand?), and a slot in the center for a screwdriver to turn it.

Thanks, John

Sounds like an aftermarket cap or master.

Are the threads on the cap the part that are stipped? Or the threads in the master?

If you are low on fluid you may want to check the entire system out to be sure there are no leaks anywhere.

Hi, thanks, I will check the system for other leaks. The threads that are stripped are on the nylon cap, not the master. John
