Im looking for anyone who has had bubbles come up in the paint after using a car cover. I had my 64 GTO parked outside with a car cover from Costco on in the rain for about 2-3 weeks, when I took the cover off, the paint was blistered every where. Im trying to fight the car cover company and am looking for others that have had problems with car covers in the past.

thanks, Roger,

I've been doing body and paint work for over 20 years and the problem you are describing is typical with using a car cover in an area where moisture can build up between the automobile and the cover.

The cover protects against external moisture getting through - but does not allow "breathing" to occur and traps moisture between the car and cover.

When the sun comes out it can literally bake the water spots in - or in extreme cases cause bubbling to occur. There is also a chance that the cover may have just accelerated an already existing condition where paint adhesion nay have been suspect. In fact I have always told my customers unless they are going to park their car in an enlosed garage not to use a car cover for exactly these reasons.

Unless the product specifically states it protects against moisture buildup between the cover and the automobile I'm not really sure going after the cover manufacturer will yield you much satisfaction.

Did it bubble right down to the bare metal?

I used a car cover outside and took it off after every rain to dry out thinking that would be enough to prevent damage. Wrong, ruined a good paint job with the blisters. I obviously would have been better off just letting the car sit in the elements.:( I don't know what damage is under the small blisters and haven't wanted to disturb paint yet to find out. I had a friend who did the same thing at about the same time as me so it must happen often. Expensive lesson.
