Is there a replacement available for the fuel tank sending unit for a 51? I read somewhere that a 36-54 Ford Unit would work if I had the right Ohms for the gauge (I am also converting to 12volt). Any information would be greatly appreciated.

The Ford truck unit #01A-9275 is what you need. The arm will have to be bent slightly. Works with either 6 or 12 volt. Available from Ford dealers, Dennis Carpenter, most good parts stores, etc. Also available from Stewart-Warner.

To convert your gauges for 12v, just replace the original instrument voltage regulator (behind the dash cluster) with NAPA/Echlin IR-2. It's listed for the earlier 12v Fords, around '56-62, I think.
