car vehicle ownership

i am trying to help my dad out, he owns a 1957 150 chevy and we are trying to find out who owned the car prior to his purchasing it. does anyone know of any web sites that offer this service? I have come across the usual car fax and others but those require the 17 character vin #'s and in the 50's these did not exist. any help would be appreciated. please email me personally at:
