#s matching???

how do you determine a #s matching 1968 impala ss.

I don't know exactly where the numbers are for the tranny, but the engine # is on the pad on the engine block directly in front of the passenger side head. The last of the digits on the engine should match the last of the numbers of your VIN. I also don't remember how many numbers it goes back, but it should be obvious. The engine number is also on the trans mating flange part of the block. The one on the head may be blocked by an accessory.
