I have recently purchased a 31 Essex Rumble Seat Coupe. Now here comes the hard part I know nothing about Essex cars, other than they were made by Hudson and not a lot of them around. Now a car is a car and the general principals are all the same but all have their own idiosyncrasies Mine has a (overdrive?) second trans and needs a complete steering gear. Came with original wood wheels and (optional?) wires. Most everything else seems to be there but time will tell, Anybody out there who can help fill in the gaps of what I don’t know or have ?

The second trans is a freewheeling unit. Standard equipment is wood spokes with optional wire wheels. Sounds like you have the '31 Essex Super Six rumbleseat coupe. What other gaps do you have?
I have a similar 31 Hudson rumbleseat coupe. It has a couple more cylinders and some whacky styling but mostly the same.
Have a good day

Go to www.yahoo.com, click on Groups - in the search box that comes up type in HudsonTech. This will lead you to a web site that has some 1931 Tune-up and electrical info.
You may have to join the group, but when you do you can either download the info or print it out.

Thanks for the info on the "second trans" it is hard to figure what are the other gaps other than the steering box etc that is missing. So any body that has that in inventory would be good

Hi. Would you mind telling me what you paid for it? Or could anyone give me an idea of value on an 1930 Eseex Super 6 w/rumbleseat? Its in probably "3" condition - ran the last time anyone started it but that was a couple years ago. My dad recently died and left us this car. We are looking to sell it.
Thank you.

Savary, congratulations on your purchase. You might want to consider joining the Hudson-Essex-Terraplane Club if you haven't already http://www.hudsonclub.org/ since it's a great way to 'network' for parts and advice. The Club's Essex expert is Lewis Mendenhall and you can reach him at HETEssexAdv@adelphia.net with your questions (delete the HET before sending).
