All, I am a mopar guru but I have came across a 1972 Olds 442? After reading several things on different sights I have not been able to find out for sure how to tell if this car came with the 442 option. The car I know came with a 350-2BBL engine but the website 442.Com says that it could still have the 442 option even with that motor. Would you look on the cowl tag for this information and if so what would I be looking for? This car is running and not too bad of shape, some rust above wheel wells and dirty engine etc. original gold color. It has rust in the quarters but not toobad, good interior except passenger seat and all 442 emblems and hurst auto shifter. He is asking $3,500 for the car. I would think I could turn around and get more out of it.
Thanks for any help on this.

Production for the 1972, 4-4-2, was an option. It no longer was a regular model like it had been since 1968.
350 ci engine was standard, 455 ci was optional
4 barrel carb
Dual exhaust was standard. The 455 had notched rear bumper and trumpet extensions.
The 350's usually didn't but it could have been ordered.
Front and rear sway bars with boxed lower rear control arms
Letter G cast on the front of the left cylinder head and rear of the right cylinder head
for the 455 and the number 7 cast for the 350.
Special air cleaner decal (4-4-2 )
Fiberglass Ram Air hood ( option W-25) could also have been ordered.
The 4-4-2 hood was accentuated with two large, finned rectangular scoops (non-functional) near the center of the hood.
4-4-2 block numbers on both front fenders, right rear corner of the rear deck and the left section of the front grill.
