Hello all. I have a 1950 Cadillac Series 61 as my daily driver. This car has generally been very good to me, but it looks like it's getting close to the point where I would have to rebuild or replace the engine.

My current engine is a 331 V8, with a Hydra-matic (column shift) transmission; Both are correct for the year. What would I be getting into if I decided to replace the engine with a 350, and a modern transmission? Also, can anyone give any reccomendations for an automatic transmission?

Any advice you can give me would be appreciated.

I can't imagine why you would want to.
That engine is usually a very reliable one with good performance. I've driven many of them and I don't believe that you can beat the combination that is already in the car and it fits without modifications.
I'd find myself a guy that knows those engines and let him go through it. I'm also not very into fitting other engines into cars like that that don't really belong, but to each their own.

Howdy
If I had a stock '50 Caddy, I would Never replace the engine. Anybody can put the 350/350 set-up in, but a Caddy V8 is the ultimate vintage "hot-rod". Rebuild it, slick it up, and drive it! IMHO
