Steering Wheel Cracks - fill with what?

I have heard that you can (and possibly should) fill any cracks in the steering wheel with something to prevent further damage....so what is it that you fill the cracks with?

Eastwood tools sells a wheel repair kit. There is also a guy on the web "The Wheel Guy" if I remember correctly that restores steering wheels. I emailed him one time and he said he could even build one if all you had left was the wire frame.

I used the material from Eastwood on my 55 Olds and was happy with the results. It is an epoxy called PC 7. Limit the amount of epoxy used in each crack because when it drys it is very hard. A limited amount makes it easier to sand. The product comes with an excellent manual. Good luck.

I had the same good experience and also advise to use a little at a time and build up the repair... out come is super if you follow the manual provided.
My wheel did not take all the material and I have used it on several other projects with great success.

yes i used the eastwood repair kit.the epoxy seemed to fill the cracks good.just be sure you grind a bevel in the deeper cracks so to be sure the epoxy gets down there.preperation is every thing the better prepared the surface(sanding and cleaning)the better the bond.you may also want to shave (with exacto)the epoxy before it sets all the way up so it saves on the sanding.good luck .
