Hi Everyone!
I have a 1964 Impala SS. It has a 3 speed on the tree and a lever for overdrive under the dash. How or where can I find any info on this transmission? How many Impala's came out with this? I can't seam to find a web site to run the vin on that gives this info. They all just tell where it was made. Some the motors that came in them. I've tried just about every where but keep coming up short. I'm going to tow this car 1100 miles to bring it home to restore. I need a reason to tell my wife it would be worth it. You can relate right?? Thanks for any help yall can give!!

Hi, Are you sure it is an SS? I have had many 63 and 64 Impala SS over the years. I have never seen or heard of one with the shift on the tree, never mind a 3 speed. They either had the 2 speed powerslide automatic or a in 64 the muncie 4 speed. This was the whole idea of the SS. Bucket seats and a floor shift. If you do have a real SS that has not been jacked with I'd say you have a very rare car indeed. Who knows, guys did all kinds of things at the factory in those days. You could get just what you wanted on a car if they made it. This should be a big hit with the wife if you can prove this to be true. If it is a rag top you really did good. Best of luck.

Howdy. I am in agreeance with the above post. I had 2 '64's. One was a 4 speed, 300 horse 327, with no power, and the other was a 250 horse 327 with all power & air. They were both SuperSports. Part of the SS package was the bucket seats, console and floor shift. Never even heard of a SS with a 3-on-the-tree column set-up back then. But, you could order almost anything you wanted from the factory back then. If you can prove that it was a factory one-of-a-kind then its worth a lot more. If its just an Impala with the SS trim, its worth less. Does it have a bench seat, or buckets?

Passnby... You could have a real SS. In 1967 I bought from a dealer in Eureka, CA a 1963 SS Impala that was equipped with a "283" and 3 on the column. It was white with the SS trim (had swirled finish trim exterior, dash bezel, and SS badges) red interior with the buckets and console. After 40+ cars and trucks it was my favorite. I was 17 then and 6 months later I talked my girlfriends brother out of a 350 HP 327 and added a T-10 with a Hurst shifter. Seemed right at the time, if I only knew.... Jeff
