Hi,

I just purchased a 1969 Lemans Gto Clone. Theh previous owner put a brand new 4:10 posi diff in it. I'm not in this for killing cars off the line, this car is for cruising with my family. What rear should I go with, what gearing, where can I get one? How do I sell this one???

Thanks

Chris

I would go with a 3.73 or 3.55 rear gear. I would also put that original rear in storage somewhere in the back of th garage. Any A-body from 68 to 72 should be a bolt in. Be careful though, there are lots of 2.73's out there. I wouldn't go any higher than a 3.42.

I have no record, but the guy I got this from said it was new, the whole unit. Looks new from underneath. IS it possible just ot change the gears without removing/ replacing the whole assembly? I don't mind low 3's or even high 2's. This is just a cruiser for me and my family to enjoy. The engine has over 400HP, so it will push it along just fine. I spent years fartingaround with Datsun Z cars. This is my first muscle car.

Thanks for the advise and get back to me

C

Sure, a gear change would be easy enough. If you haven't done one before find someone locally that does. Gears are available in almost any ratio you like.

Howdy
Back in 1967, I had a '66 ChevyII Nova SS with the FX 327/350 horse engine. It had a 3.36 positraction rear end and that unit would bury the hand in 3rd gear at 130, then ya shift to 4th! I was clocked on radar once at 156, and it was nowhere close to being done. As said, the 3.55 is a good ratio for what you are looking for.
