What goes into the hole in the dash?

My '37 has a delete plate over that hole. Could the hole be for a clock on a RHD model?

Yes, the hole is in a removable panel which would normally be permanently attached in LHD cars. In RHD cars that panel would have had hinges, and would have been the glove box. And the small hole would then have held the optional electric clock. Hudson's symmetrical dashboards lent themselves to adaptation to RHD models, since Hudson did a large export trade. The instruments were centered, which meant that the glove box could easily be switched to the left or right side.
