My fiance and I bought a 1967 Chrysler Newport, the gentleman that we bought it from, said that the engine was a 440 but all the information I have found on the internet and in the book says it is a 383. If anyone knows how I can find out what size it is please let me know. Thank you for any help that you can provide for me.

What is the fifth character of the VIN??? A "G" is a 383 2-bbl'; an "H" represents a 383 4-bbl. A "K" is a 440. In the Newports, the 383 was far more common than a 440.

A 440 engine is wider than a 383, and will have a flat machined pad in the front of the engine, next to and behind the water pump housing. It'll have 440 stamped into it and probably have other characters stamped , as well.

www.nybclub.org for more info, specifically on Newyorkers but also has Newport and Imperial info, too. Good forum there, too. Lots of daily activity there.
