I just bought this car on ebay and I am going to pick it up this weekend. It is said to run great and everything works ok on it, just needs some interior work. What info is there on this engine? What designation and size is it? What small things can I do to get a little more power? Does anyone make electronic ignition for it? Can I put a modern oil filter on it? Are there any books out there aside from service manuals that would hlep me learn about this car and drivetrain? I have a '71 Dodge Demon so I know about muscle cars of all kinds but not about cars this old.

51 Plymouth Carnbrook was a pretty popular car I think. I worked for a guy that had one and it rode really nice. What body style do you have?
The engine was a P-23, 6 cylinder with 217.8 Cubic Inches and a horsepower rating of 97. Compression ratio was 7.0:1 and it had a 1 bbl carb, model Carter BB, model D6H1. It was a cast iron block with an L - head. It has solid lifters.
The Cranbrook was the top of the line.
What transmission do you have? Three speed stick was standard.

I would suggest joining a club as you will get a lot of information and help from the people that own one.
Another possibility would be to join the A.A.C.A. Or go their message board. There are some very knowledgable people over there.

The best of luck with the car and enjoy it.
Ron
Post up a picture, it would be nice to see it.
