Went motoring in the Hudson, and broke it!

So I decided to take the Hudson to work this morning. Drove it there, then stopped over to say hi to hudson dad. I then decided to take it down the highway to get an idea how far off the speedo was, while hudsondad followed in his brand X truck... (haha... really wanted to say that...) :p

Anyway, without OD and 4:10'S it was quite a drive (more reason to get the OD back in and working, hint hint hudsondad!) :cool:

Stopped at mom and dads for a couple of minutes, and went to start it, and the rear carb was filled with oil! (would not start) not sure, is that thru the hard driving on some back country roads, and dusting hudsondad's hemi on the curvies, (but he caught me in the straights, probably like hudsons and olds did it on the racetrack!) Can't figure it out, but took the oil bath twin h aircleaners off, and stuck a quick set of small chromies on, and the car started. BTW, it ran terrific, I think the oil bath aircleaners might be holding it back. I am going to work on the paper filter ones and probably fit it with them... and save some weight! :eek:

But on a more serious note.... taking back to where i store it, I broke it! almost didn't get it back! Anyone ever have their gas pedal come unattached to the throttle linkage? well, that's what happened, except, when I put it back on the linkage, and proceeded to drive, it came off again! Guess what? even though my gas pedal is in terrific shape, the hard rubber cup on the back is worn out/cracked/split! anyone ever have to fix one? advice? help!

hudsonkid's hudson is down for the count, until we figure this one out... :mad:

I might just epoxy a new cone piece or try to fix it accordingly... unless of course someone has a better idea!

That is a common problem. The rubber just ages. I helped a friend obtain a NOS one recently, so I can only tell you that they are still out there! Send out some e-mails and postcards to ''the usual suspects'' who advertise stuff in the WTN!

WRONG, THEY ONLY HAVE THE TOP COVERS, NOT COMPLETE PEDEL WITH KNOB ON THE BACK. THIS USUALLY HAPPENS BECAUSE THE LINKAGE IS NOT ALIGNED TO THE PEDAL CORRECTLY AND PUTS TOO MUCH PRESSURE SIDEWAYS, BREAKING THE CUP, i HAVE SEVERAL NOS. BUT STICK OD AND HYDRO ARE DIFFERENT, ONE HAS A PAD FOR THE KICKDOWN SWITCH, HAVE BROKEN MANY OF THE CUPS OUT OVER THE YEARS, NEVER FOUND A FIX THAT WOULD HOLD, BILL ALBRIGHT, EMAIL albrighthudsons#msn.com

Walt Mordente did a tech tip a number of years ago. His tip involved using a small hose clamp and some rubber goo.. Send him an email and I'm sure he will fill you in

I got a buddy that works with urethanes, in a R&D area of a belt manufacturer. He thinks full well that he can build the area up, seal the cracks, and maintain the needed ball socket. We'll see here in a few days. He told me that the mix he is going to use tomorrow might be all but perfect for what needs done. (he's a car guy so he understands the application)

I believe I used Gorilla Glue last time and it's still holding a year later.

One way to deal with the kickdown switch is move it over SE of the dummer switch. That way you can kick it down without flooring it, and split shift the tranny as well. as you get get the clutch with your toe and the KD with your heel as you shift from 2nd OD to standard 3rd.
