So I find out “The Great Race” is making a stop in my town the other day. Took my youngest daughter over to see some old cars. There were four Hudsons participating that I saw…the newest being 1917! Can you imagine going from I think Pennsylvania to California in one of these? That’s an adventure. (BTW the temp was 93 in Springfield Missouri that day, and we don’t get a “dry” heat) The newest cars I saw were from the late Fifties, so somebody should run this in a Stepdown some year. Actually I think the cut-off year is in the Sixties.

Cool pics Robert! But, us desert rats would be dying in that humidity!

I've read some stuff on these old races and am also amazed at what they accomplished given the roads and cars of the days!

We caught race going thru our area a couple of years ago. I am a nascar fan, and Jack Roush and his daughter were driving a 40 Ford Coupe, he helped with the race

that year. The cars are just great, and I would highly reccomend you see it.

The Great Race cars will be in downtown Minden Nevada on Thursday July 6th at around Noon.
We will be helping Them park, and the city will be providing them lunch. We will have a welcoming display of old collector cars lining the streets, as they pass by. And yes ,my '51 Hornet will be there !

One sight reported from an earlier Great Race: 1920's (as I recall) fire engine, with dual ignition system of the type you could cut out one bank of plugs, rolling down the highway at around 55 or 60 with a guy lying on the fender changing plugs in one bank!!!
These guys are nuts.

Jay Last Sunday the wife and I were returning from Baltimore to Western PA, when we started to pass some of the cars in the Great Race who were headed for Cumberland Maryland. This was the time when the east coast was getting drenched with the thunderstorms. Since we were driving through a downpour at the time. A lot of the drivers and navigators in the open roadsters looked like they would take some 100+ heat for more sun and less water.
