Hey eveyone

theres a fair size gap (2 washers) between my flywheel and my new torque converter. My old torque converter had nuts welded onto it, but the new one doesn't. So the space needs to be filled by something.

I used washers from the hardware store, tightened the bolts and started her up. Cracked the flywheel.

Whats the proper way to do this?

torque conv. should mount flush to flywheel. No Gap

I cant answer for your application and it has been a long time since I worked on anything older than the eighties.
But usualy GMs have threaded blocks on the converters that will space it out from the flexplate. Fords have studs that place it closer. If your new converter does not have the same mounting parts you might have the wrong one. Or try to bolt it up with no washers to space it.
