Hey all. I'm kind of confused and could use some help. I'm working on a 65 Impala.I have installed a 350 with HEI ignition. The problem is getting power to the distibutor.I initially used an existing wire that is hot with the ignition switch in the run position but had no power during cranking. I have now ran a wire from the starter solenoid and tied into that same existing wire. So now with both wires attached to the Batt terminal of the distibutor the engine starts but will not run with the ignition switch in run position. What am I doing wrong?

I believe that your older coil was fed by two wires. A White, Orange or Purple wire and a Yellow one. The Yellow one is the 12 volts in the crank position coming from the starter. The other one is the resister wire coming from the bulkhead connector. You will first of all have to eliminate the resister wire buy going inside the car and finding the pink wire on the inside of the connector. That is the wire from the ignition switch that is hot in the run position. Eliminating the resister wire is necessary because you need the full 12 volts in the run position. Connect both the new wire from the Pink and the Yellow one from the starter together and they will go to the H.E.I. Before you connect them to the coil, you can test the voltage to make sure that it works.
I'm pretty sure this will do it.

Thanks Ron. I'll give that a try.
