First, this is my first post and would like to say hello! I have a 1967 chevy carpice with a 283 cid motor with a points distributor. I would like to know if i can switch out this distributor for a 350 hei distributor. If it is possible, how and what do i need for the install? I would greatly appreciate the help!

I have a 283 that I think is probably the same timeframe motor and it has the HEI setup. It's in a 50 chevy pickup though. I'd be glad to take pictures of any area you may need to check. I just cant help you with what will work or not on it. Hopefully someone will chime in. I do have a question for you about your caprice. Do you know what the brake shoe size is? Would it be 11x2 inchs?

I'm not sure about the shoe size but i'll take a look and get back to you! I would be nice to know what your setup looks like so those pics would come in handy if you wouldn't mind sending me some! Thanks!! I'll get back you on those shoes!

I have one picture that came off the auction but will take more of what you really need to see close up etc. I may have found the brake shoes. Went to Napa and they had some that looked correct. They went on a 57 Chevy truck 1/2 ton. I still dont know what the 5 lug hubs are off of but will see what will work since they have them as well. I did find out from someone that the rear end was made August 20, 1956 and most likely went on a 57 model.
Dont bother looking at your brakes. I think those at Napa will work. I would like to learn anything about the 283 so feel free to ask for pic's of any certain area after you've seen the engine. Any pro's or con's you could share about this engine would be appreciated. I've heard you cant kill them, Ed

Yeah my uncle and i are working on a 1950 pickup too! We put a camero sub frame up front and the rear end out of the camero is also on it. It is clean looking. All together we have just about every year truck from the 50's up chevy of course! We also have cameros, impalas, monte carlos, chevelles, wagons! So if there is something that i can help you out with, or sale you let me know!
