Hugh's way of making a tough job a whole lot easier!

What is he using for a gear driven crank? That is a neat set-up. Does he have any written plans for it?

Hugh did tell me some time ago what kind of crank he used, but I've forgotten what it is now. I'll ask him to post a couple more details for us and maybe a list of materials or something like that.

I've seen this unit in action, and you can turn a car in it with two fingers !! Kinda freaky to watch because you think the car is going to become unbalanced as it goes over, and topple the whole thing, but its actually perfectly balanced and turns as easy as spinning a pinwheel.

Incidentally, you can make a nice worm-drive crank from an old snow-blower auger drive.

Hugh has now posted some measurements for this unit, and I've asked him to identify the gearbox with make, model etc. There are probably many types of gearboxes that would be easily adaptable, so that specific one may not be critical, but it would be interesting to know what make and model it is, to look up another on the net, or wherever. Maybe ebay ??

Anyway, I'll let Hugh be guide for that part. He's done us all a big favour with that post.

Thanks much for your help silverone, I have plans for a home built one but it doesn't have a crank. Which is why I'm so interested in knowing what it is.

I got the plans for mine off this guy on the internet. You send your email and he sends you the plans. They are pretty good.
