Need Help

[1963impala]

I just picked up a 1963 Chevy Impala SS. At least this is what I am told it is. After doing some extensive research I am still unable to find out a few things. If anyone know where the VIN that is stamped on the frame is located could you please let me know. Also the first three digits of the vin seem to be inaccurate to me they are 381. All the research I have done leads me to believe that the 8 and the 1 are in the wrong order. Can anyone help me.

If it was 318 it would be an Impala 8 cyl. There is nothing for 381
Have you looked at the body plate to get the Fisher Body/ Style Number ?
Does it look like the plate on the pillar was tampered with?
Try lookinf on the top of the frame right about where the front drivers seat is to see if there is a stamping there.
