So I'm a couple of years out of school, I've got some money in my pocket, and I figure I better get the fun little dream car I always wanted before I end up married with children. (You married guys can go ahead and try to argue against this logic.)

The car I've always imagined buying was a Stingray Corvette. I honesty haven't test driven one yet, but I like the idea of a small convertible with sex appeal... and in the ballpark of $15-20k.

Q: Any other recommended models?

Q: Any recommended buying services for an owner that's not especially car literate? (I realize I may be violating one of the premises of this forum :D)

Q: Any hints on dealing with the emissions standards in California? (I'm a new resident.)

Q: Any tips on considering an after market paint job? (I have an irrational fixation on getting the right color.)

Q: Any other forums out there that might be geared more towards me?

The car would be a daily driver. We'll see how well I can make due without a grocery getter for a couple of years.

If I was you, I'd get out and about this summer going to antique car meets, and just look around at what interests you. You may be able to talk to the owners of the cars to form a better idea of whether that particular car is for you. When you've finally decided what you really like, join whatever car club represents that make and model. Then read their club newsletter and attend a meet or two. Get to know local people who own this type of car and pry information out of them. Ask them plenty of questions. Begin to find out what these cars sell for, in various conditions. Soon you'll be an expert and a much more intelligent buyer!
