Default 1941 Hudson

I`m new to Hudsons and looking for advice and info on them. I restore T`s&A`s and have ten or so of them, 4 are done and several to go. No I do not sell them, my boys will have them when I`m gone to carry on in my place if they so choose. I had a friend give me a 41 Hudson that he aquired thru a trans-action. He said I deserved what I got. LOL. First, in line of my many questions, does it have neg. ground on the battery? Also how is the parts avalability? What an where do I start looking for books and catalogs? I`need all upolstry. I need a tin water jacket that bolts on the drivers side. I should have said that it has a straight 8 cyc. Thanks very much for any info that you could give me. Monte

First off, it's a positive ground.

Second, you might want to post further questions at the "Hudson" Forum on this site, rather than out here in the "general" section. You'll find the Hudson forum in the main listing of all the forums here.

Finally, if you plan to keep this car you might want to join the Hudson-Essex-Terraplane Club, where you'll find a wealth of information, leads on parts, a great bi-monthly magazine and a network of Hudson owners. The club's new website is at http://www.hetclub.org/ . The new website is linked in many ways to this Classiccar website, but you can find info on joining the Club over there. Welcome to the wild and wacky world of Hudsons, and best of luck with your "new" '41.

The Hudson on-line library @
http://www.hudsonterraplane.com/tech/tech_index.htm

has a neat little booklet I made up - 1940-47 Mechanical Specs and Tune-Up Specs - which you should find helpful.

Go to the above URL and scroll down to 1940.

As Jon says joining the H-E-T (Hudson-Essex-Terraplane) club is also a very good idea. We put out a great magazine 6 times a year (1st class, tho a little more expensive, is the way to go as you'll get the publication quicker. We also have a great club store - but most important we've got some 3600 of what I consider the greatest people in the world. As I have told people over the years, I've belonged to several car clubs - but those have gone away and I'm still with the HET club. I just got my 40 year pin!!!! Lot of years and not one regret - except maybe I don't have a Hudson. Such is life.

For membership info drop by the club web site @ http://www.hetclub.org/ - it doesn't look like you have to have a log in to get to the membership info - click on Membership.

Welcome aboard - we hope you'll join our little band of happy HudsonNuts!! You won't regret it.

Alex Burr

Monte,

Amen! to what Jon, and Alex said.

email our White Triangle News editor, Sam Jackson, at HETfortyqtpi@earthlink.net and ask him to send you a complimentary copy. Remove the 'HET' as it's there to foil the spammers. The magazine has all the parts suppliers listed in the classified section in the back.

I'm restoring a 40 straight eight coupe. Frame and motor are done, and am working on the body. Feel free to email me with any questions you may have at HETcramerlp@roadrunner.com (remove HET)

There are a lot of parts under 'Hudson' in eBay motors. I have seen the water jacket recently but who knows. Maybe somebody will post here with one. Incidentally, Geoff Clark, from NZ who posts here, put me on to one of the holes in the jacket which is directly opposite a web in the block and should be redrilled for better cooling.

Larry, aka Uncle Josh

We also have a "paper" library which is separate from the On-line library.

Once you join H-E-T, you'll find the librarian listed in the WTN. The paper library has much more material than the on-line version. One of these days I got to get my hands on that one and try to get it on-line, maybe.

Monte,
One of the benefits of of being a member of the HET Club is that the WTN has free classifieds, where you will find some very good sources for the parts you will need.

SAMJ (editor of the WTN) will most likely send you a sample copy of the mag if you send him an email or PM requesting it - see the link below:
http://classiccar.com/index.php?opti...ad.php&t=18090

You can find copies of many manuals in the HET Store, on eBay, etc..

Here is a Manual on your '41 -
http://motors.shop.ebay.com/i.html?_...nual&_osacat=0

Interchange Manual -
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Hudso...item5ad2c3d9be

More Manuals here -
http://www.faxonautoliterature.com/home_one.cfm

I've bought a few manuals from Faxon, they are very good reproductions, not your average 'xerox' copies.

That water jacket (8 cyl) you are looking for is fairly available, I have seen them offered NOS a few times on eBay, and in the WTN as well.

Welcome to the world of Hudsons!

Welcome to the world of Hudsons!
I've often wondered how well Faxon copies sold, considering their prices.

I know the stuff I used to advertise at well below Faxon prices didn't attract much interest so I put most of it in the on-line library. I'm considering putting the General Information Handbook on-line - I just feel that it really wouldn't be fair to those who have bought a copy. Oh, well - such is life.

LOL, you remind me of Cousin Bubba, Alex, from somewhere in your new neck of the woods. He's a pretty big fella, and they asked him how much he'd lost on Herbalife. He replied ''bout 800 dollars so far'.

I'll never make any money on Hudsons even if I sell em all, but shoot, how can ya put a price on fun and serving your fellow man?
