I have a '55 Bel Air convertible. It has 60,000 original miles and has never been rebuilt or modified in any way. It has been repainted, that/s it. It is in great shape and looks new, no rust or dents. The interior is also looks new. The engine is a 6 cylinger and also looks new. I would say that it is a no. 2 car. I need to do a brake job. Should I replace the small master cylinder with a safer, newer version. Also, I am planning to install seat belts. Both of these items would deviate from the current original condition (only the battery and hoses are not original). Also, I have been offered $50,000 for the car. Is this a fair price. I don't know how many all-original '55 convertibles there are left. Thanks for any advice, I am somewhat new to this.

JJjags, the fact that sone will offer you 50K for an unmolested 55 convert. with a 6 cylinder indicates that the car is much more valuble as built. So go with the original brakes and I beleive seat belts we afford as a factory option starting in 55. (I'm sure some one will correct me if wrong.) So you could be on the prowle for a set of factory lap belts. If you wish to go that route and want new check out the corvette parts suppliers like Corvette central ect. The same seat belts that would have been used in your sedan would be available though them as Vette standard production items. Oh and in my popinion $50K for your car is well within the range of actual value.
