Default Starter wiring

Hi guiys;
Can someone give me a little help? I just put a 400 big block in my '66 caprice and the starter is a 1 wire(The main plus 1 small) and the car was set with a two wire (the main plus two small), so how do I hook this up?? What wire goes to the starter and where does the other one go??

Thanks!
Dave. K

Dave, the terminal on the outside is the solonoid wire (purple) and the one closest to the engine is the feed wire to the coil to supply 12V during the crank mode. Once you release the key, it stops feeding the coil and the ignition picks up that duty. I think? the inside wire is green? memory isn't all it once was. Keep us posted.

You can just use the purple wire on your motor swap. Like Mike said, the other wire feeds 12v to the coil when cranking. Depending on your dist. and coil setup, you may not need it. If it is hard to start when cold, the extra wire may have a use.

i may be new to chevys cause i'm usually a ford guy, but the "s" terminal goes straight to the ignition switch, the "r" terminal is used on a points distributor. i do believe that you got the wrong starter if you don't have 2 terminals. does your distributor have the coil pack mounted to the top or is it an external coil?? external coil distributors require the "r" terminal on the starters. as for the colors i am still tryin to figure that one out. i'm having some difficulty with trying to figure out which one goes to my ignition. but then again my newly aquired "problem child's" wiring is an electrition's nightmare come true. i mean its even got toggle switches for friggen turn signals for cryin out loud!!
